TRADE UNIONISM AND ITS INFLUENCE ON MANAGEMENT POLICY IMPLEMENTATION; A STUDY OF LIFE BREWERY
Abstract
Trade unions have always played an important role in the determination of labour standards and on management policy implementation. This activity can be argued to increase output and welfare of both the organization and the workers. Lack of this union in an organization will bring about problems like exploitation of workers of and the welfare of the workers will be ignored. Some of the major objectives of these trade unions are to protect the welfare and interest of members, to protect the employment position of the members, to maintain the dignity in labour etc. it goes on to examine policy implementation issues and how to solve them, some of these numerous problems that was tackled upon are trade disputes and industrial disharmony in recent times, to identify how the management policies could be implemented to match with the objective of the organization in general. The study focuses its attention on ways which trade union can influence the management policies implementation of an organization, particularly in Life Breweries Plc Onitsha. Also, to determine possible cause of workers dissatisfaction in the organization and finally, identify ways of improving employees and employers relationship harmoniously in work situation. The limitation among other things included was for an effective and efficient study, so as to be free from bias, due to time constraints, lack of funding etc. then in the review of related literature, trade union was defined as an organization based on membership of employees in various trades, occupations and professions, whose major focus is representation of its members at the workplace in the wider society. The source of data collection is primary data and in presenting data analysis the use of simple percentage was adopted. The researcher made some recommendation and finally some conclusion was made.
